BLACK WOMEN ABROAD

Study Abroad Student Scholarship
(SASS!)

Black Women Abroad (BWA) is a collective started by Christa E. Sanders and Johnette Iris Stubbs to highlight and encourage women of color to travel the world.

A portion of the proceeds from the BWA books, tours, and merchandise goes directly to endowing this scholarship.

Our Team

Johnette and Christa, both Spelman alumna,  are the original Black Women Abroad of this organization. They took their convictions and turned them into action;  but never alone!

They have an amazing team of regulars and part-time volunteers who are committed to helping others.

Our History

As Black Women Abroad our wunderlust started as students in our formative and university years. The opportunity to open our minds at that age was life changing.

Thanks to generous donors we both received scholarships that gave us the opportunity to study abroad, and now we want to pay it forward.

Throughout the years, we continue to try to embody Spelman’s motto,  A Choice To Change the World through International Education, Culture, and Development.

Our Mission

Our aim is to remove the financial barriers to studying abroad by providing scholarships.

Every year, semester, or summer, some Spelman student misses the option to study abroad; we want to fill that need.
